ABOUT BOGESUMWA VILLAGE

Bogesumwa Village is located in Kisii County, Kenya. Most of the residents in this village own small parcels of land on which they depend on growing of corn, and raising animals like cows, goats, sheep and chicken. They survive on less than half a dollar daily! There is no piped water, no sewage disposal and even though there is electricity in the area presently, the cost of getting connected is astronomical and beyond the reach of many residents. Land is tilled using traditional hoes and there is over-cultivation of land leading to low production of corn; thus, the village is constantly faced with lack of enough food. Students go to school barefoot. Presently, the number of orphaned children is growing because of HIV and AIDS.
